saturn (he/they)

saturn ran away to the nova alliance after lying to his parents about going there to study at comet academy. the truth was that he was never accepted in the first place! his plan was to lay low, find a job, and enjoy living in the dueling capitol of the world. what he wasn’t expecting was for a spirit to form a link with him, possess him, and turn him into the infamous dueling criminal known as the one-eyed jack. with the ability to shadow duel, he and the eye spirit, chatterbox, become the most well-known and popular criminal in the alliance. 

desperate to return to a normal life, saturn struggles to find a balance between fighting for his own survival and playing his part in preventing a catastrophe centuries in the making. 

neptune (they/them)

since they were young, neptune has been a spirit guard, a type of mysterious vigilante justice common in the nova alliance. nicknamed “silencer” by their colleagues, neptune is known for cracking down on dueling criminals without mercy. their eye spirit, nashira, arms them with the ability to see visions of the future and allows them to fight with an unmatched advantage. 

alongside their work wrangling criminals, neptune is obsessed with finding a solution to the black hole sector crisis. however, their strained relationship with the research commission throws a wrench into the works. 

ceres (she/her)

popular battle duelist ceres is a fighter with flare and fire! being saturn’s next-door neighbor unintentionally drags her into the dark secrets of the nova alliance and she quickly finds herself more connected to the danger than she could have ever imagined. 

like her great-aunt, the dueling hero hygeia, ceres displays fierce bravery, loyalty, and dueling skill. she is often a source of support and advice to saturn, even when the odds are stacked against them. 

phi (he/him)

don’t try to ask phi for any serious information about himself. you’ll either get outright lies or nothing at all. unless you have proper payment, that is. 

this mysterious info broker also works as a bartender and seems to know all the gossip one could ask for. concealed in secrecy and without clear aspirations of his own, phi assists his partner, neptune, and his childhood friend, swift, with their black hole sector research. 

swift (she/her)

one of the most notable scientists in the alliance, diana swift is known for her research on the black hole sector. apart from the eye spirit hosts, she is the only person who can traverse the black hole sector without falling in. her interest in the spatial anomaly reaches far past mere interest and into full obsession. 

despite close ties to the council and a spirit guard, swift has a knack for rebellion and will not let anything discourage her in the search for truth.

atlas (he/they)

after his his entire team vanished suddenly and suspiciously, spirit guard atlas joined forces with neptune and their friends until things settle down. 

like most spirit guards, atlas has had several run-ins with the law and was even nicknamed “the angel of death.” his main job as a spirit guard is making sure scientists in the alliance keep their research ethical. to put it lightly, his work keeps him busy. 

more than anything, atlas longs to know what happened to his missing friends and to someday retire to a peaceful life. 

mercury (he/him, but it’s complicated)

mercury is an unfortunate individual who was a student at the university until the black hole sector consumed his apartment. unsure what to do, he wandered the alliance without a home until he unexpectedly encounters and links with ebla, an eye spirit who cannot speak. erratic, panicked, and desperate to communicate, ebla uses her ability to possess and shapeshift mercury, sending him into a full identity crisis. 

in a last-ditch effort to save his own sanity, mercury does as his eye spirit suggests and tracks down the one person he knows to also have an eye spirit: the one-eyed jack.

pluto (she/her)

pluto is the result of an experiment conducted by dr. vega to force a connection between eye spirit and host, a bond usually formed by chance. 

she is a tiny child, but pluto is the most fearsome of the eye spirit hosts. her eye companion, lich, allows her to control the minds of others, forcing them to do whatever she pleases. she sees neptune, swift, and phi as cool older siblings and they constantly remind her that her powers can be dangerous if she doesn’t control them and herself. pluto listens to them, even if she doesn’t understand what’s so bad about forcing people to stop breathing.
